F.A.Q.’S FOR KIDS

WHY SHOULD CHILDREN STUDY MARTIAL ARTS?

There are several benefits for children who choose to study martial arts.
  1. Improved report cards: Studying martial arts requires focus, discipline, and perseverance.  Once your child learns these important attributes, he or she will be able to easily utilize them in the classroom.
  2. Healthy kids are happy kids:  Exercise in general helps us all live more productive lives.  Exercise, especially for children, is vital to achieve success in all aspects of life.
  3. Children learn to be respectful: Children in our classes will learn to be positive and respectful.  Their newly acquired positivity and respect will be a driving force in every aspect of their lives.
  4. Self-Confidence: Children who study martial arts develop greater self-confidence.  They will have an ability to push themselves further than they had previously thought possible.  The success they experience through martial arts can act as a tremendous building block for future achievements.
  5. Self-Defense: We all hope that children will never need to use the knowledge they gain from studying martial arts.  Unfortunately, there may come a time when a child will need to know how defend themselves.  Not only will your child gain a physical form of self-defense, strength, flexibility, overall health, and striking techniques, but also a mental form of self-defense that will give your child the ability to avoid confrontation, danger, and dangerous people, whenever they present may be present.
IS THE STUDY OF MARTIAL ARTS RIGHT FOR MY CHILD?

Martial arts can be beneficial to anyone who chooses to study it.  Martial arts is unique to most sports because it is “way of life.” Very few sports, or any activity that your child may get involved in, emphasize mental discipline essential to aligning body, mind, and spirit.

Martial arts can also be a wonderful way for a child to work out stress and aggression, but more importantly, give your child the tools necessary to turn his or her aggression into positive and productive activities.
CAN MY CHILD GET HURT STUDYING MARTIAL ARTS?

While anything is possible if a child is involved in any physical activity, the chances of your child being injured are much less than if your child was involved in many other sports such as football, basketball, ice hockey etc.

Students participating in our classes here at Martial Arts Unlimited,  will be supervised 100% of the time.  Also, before any techniques or physical contact is permitted, all of the students are taught the proper approach to minimize potential injuries to themselves and their training partners.
MY CHILD HAS ADHD.  WILL THEY BENEFIT?

The answer is a resounding YES!!!  ADHD children need a very structured environment that has clear-cut boundaries, rules, as well as goals.  One of the main goals for children in our programs here at Martial Arts Unlimited is to help them maintain concentration and focus.  This will be directly beneficial to any child who suffers from ADHD.

During the classes, your child will be given an outlet to release any extra energy he or she may have.  This will lead to a better night sleep, and a better night sleep will help optimize your child’s success on a daily basis.
WILL MARTIAL ART TRAINING MAKE MY CHILD TOO AGGRESSIVE?

This is a common misconception that many who are unfamiliar with martial arts may have.  True martial arts are founded on a defensive spirit, prohibiting the initiation of confrontation.  True forms of martial arts help foster humility and discipline, not arrogance and indulgence.  We here at Martial Arts Unlimited pride ourselves on our ability to instill discipline, self-control, and self-confidence in each and everyone of our students.  All of these attributes actually work to make your child less aggressive.
